We focus on education and rehabilitation to develop knowledge and life skills, communication and independence. This prepares students for active community participation, accessibility and inclusion in order to ensure a fully adapted school environment, personal growth, and leadership to encourage autonomy and self-advocacy.

The School
Established in 1902, The Jewish Institute for the Blind (JIB) is an official special education school for blind and visually impaired students aged 6 to 21, operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Education.
All students undergo an eligibility and characterization process to ensure that our school provides the appropriate educational support for their needs. Many of our students have additional disabilities, including physical, cognitive, or communication challenges.

Educational Approach
We offer a well-rounded general education with subjects including: Language, Communication, Mathematics, Science, Civics, Life Skills, Jewish Studies, and Cultural Identity. Additionally, Each student follows a personalized curriculum that is developed annually, outlining the specific skills they will focus on throughout the academic year.
Because every student has unique needs, the school combines personalized learning with group activities to encourage collaboration, peer learning, and personal development.
Students who meet the necessary requirements can take matriculation exams with adapted assessments.
The school imparts humane values based on human dignity, social responsibility and commitment, promotes leadership values, social experiences, community involvement, and imparts values that express the Jewish and Zionist way of life.

Life Preparation Field
Our students graduate with the knowledge and skills needed for independent living and employment. The program emphasizes self-awareness, career exploration, and practical work experience. Students receive training in three key areas: understanding their abilities and challenges, gaining knowledge about the workforce, and acquiring hands-on experience in various fields.
Ultimately, we strives to enable graduates with coping resources and equip them with appropriate tools to be integrated as independent and meaningful contributors to their community and society.
Behavioral-Emotional Domain
Focusing on fostering strong interpersonal skills, peer communication, and self-advocacy, the program encourages students to develop confidence in their abilities, recognize their strengths and limitations, and find ways to express themselves effectively.
Social And Values Area
Promoting moral values such as dignity, respect, and social responsibility, students engage with their communities, participate in leadership initiatives, and develop a strong sense of identity. The school integrates Jewish and Zionist teachings into its curriculum, helping students strengthen their cultural and religious connection while fostering a sense of belonging.
Life Skills
Designed to help students achieve maximum autonomy in their daily lives, this includes training in daily living skills, independent mobility, decision-making, and problem-solving. A significant focus is placed on the use of technology to enhance accessibility. The school provides assistive devices such as Braille displays, Braille printers, Cobra reading software, raised printers, and text-to-speech tools. Students also receive training in computer literacy, smart phone technology, robotics, AI, and adaptive technology, ensuring they can navigate both academic and professional environments with greater independence.

Vocational Program
JIB encourages its students throughout their academic career and supports them beyond the primary school with its vocational school, which provides students with training and mentorship opportunities to explore different career paths and develop specialized skills including: Wood Shop, Ceramics, Home Economics, Art, Music and Financial Capabilities.

Community Engagement And Future Success
JIB is dedicated to preparing students for independent living, higher education, and successful careers. Through mentorship, career planning, and workplace readiness programs, graduates receive the guidance they need to transition smoothly into adulthood. The school maintains strong connections with its alumni, providing continued support to ensure that students achieve their full potential and become active contributors to society.
