People ask me, “how do you fix bicycles without seeing?”
I reply - “how do you eat without seeing your mouth!?” 😄
My name is Dani Shachar.
I fix bicycles and have ridden bikes my whole life.
And I do everything while visually impaired!
It really has nothing to do with the eyes because you can see with your hands!
INTERVIEWER: Can you tell us what you’re finding wrong with this bicycle?
I’m checking to see if one of the teeth (notches) are broken.
I have to disassemble the “cassette” and get to work.
I’ve been a “techie” my whole life.
My advantage is that my hands work very well without me seeing.
It doesn’t matter, night or day, I can work!
It has happened to me over the years, people have asked me to fix their bike and have offered to get me a flashlight!!
I told them “no thanks, I use the Blind Method” 😄
INTERVIEWER: Do you find that people won’t rely on you to do their work?
People want to take responsibility for me telling me what I can and can’t do.
I don’t want anyone telling me what I can and can’t do.
I’m a veteran, give me anything to do, anything!
